Nary, Nary, Nary…it was your time to shine! Our boy Nary Manivong, and star of DRESSED held his show on February 17, after postponing because of snow. The models were placed on a revolving platform covered in silver glitter against a black and white patterned backdrop…a pattern used in his dress collection. WWD was there and so was The New York Times, plus many other journalists who ventured to the Audi Forum for the event. Great reviews….Bravo Nary! Checkout photos on Facebook…find us…DRESSED!

Other collections that were memorable and exciting….Tadashi Shoji had razer-cut, pleated ruffles that dominated the collection. They were soft and structured at the same time and each dress was a strong statement. Anna Sui’s show rocked the energy the minute I entered the space at MBFW Bryant Park! The show was colorful with layers, layers and more layers of patterns…a cross between an eskimo and a 60’s rocker…very cool and wearable! The Art of Craftsmanship Revisited New York LVMH jointly conceived by LVMH and Parsons, the New School for Design was a student competition to create fashion ensembles and films inspired by the work of local artisans and the luxury world of LVMH. The presentation was mounted at Milk and had a tight door policy - the place was packed with up-to-the-minute hipsters and fashion celebs. The garments were innovative and chic…a wonderful showing.

A great end to MBFW - lots of fun…so let me fill you in! Real Jewels was a highlight at the Accessories Show hosted by the PR Mavens at Azalea at Midtown. The designer, Ilia McCormick, touts social responsibility and recycles metals to make themed collections of gold, silver and precious stones. “It’s amazing”, she says, “when you live with this from inside…it’s surreal”. Christian Cota Show was a spectacular showing of over 20 designs. A new look for him to include patterns and a different kind of draping, more angular and jagged. Colors of warm ochre, crimson, copper, purple, cool lapis and onyx prevailed. Cota showed at the Metropolitan P to an excited crowd, including Anna Wintour.

Hi Fashion Mavens….more fun at MBFW! Starting with Vaute Couture at the Green Shows in the Lower East Side showing Eco Outerwear. Great, colorful flowers, stockings and bodysuits in and around upscale eco fabrication in coats and other outerwear. Eco Activist Mai-ly Hilgort showed a wonderful line of sleek basics from short cargo jackets to a winter white calf-length coat - expertly tailored. Onto the Accessories show at Azalea Restaurant. Hosted by a number of high powered PR experts, including Ana Martins, designers had tables with both fun and luxury items at close range. Of note - rubber, tinned banded Pixel Moda watches - a mere $25 retail, fun colors especially wearing several spring colors….looking forward to seeing brights again! More to come….

Gary Harvey’s Fashion With a Conscience was a delight! The show opened the “Green Shows” on the Lower East Side last night with spotlight one-of-a-kind dresses made from raincoats, army fatigues, baseball jackets, baseball jerseys, paper and other found materials. Just a few years ago, to be “green” meant to compromise on style - but no more. Harvey is a veteran in the industry as Creative Director of Levi Strauss and Dockers Europe for nearly 10 years. Bravo to the new fashion order!

February 14 - Happy Valentine’s Day!
A couple of great fashion days…some highlights….Academy of Art, by far, one of the most creative and innovative displays of talent this week. Bethany Meuleners knit and woven collection paired with flat work boots echoed the best of modern grunge! Cynthia Steffe played with fabric textures of tweeds and leather making the jumper the must have for Fall 2010. Loris Diran’s show at the Bowery Hotel was fun and elegant as the 1940’s Sunset Boulevard theme was housed in the right setting. Ended the day with the DRESSED crew, Nary Manivong, Noel Jean and Director David Swajeski at Project Runway’s winner Irina Shabayeva’a showing…crowded event with great music and lots of energy. The designs were a mix of fur, leather and exotic feathers. Time will tell if she is welcomed into the industry for the long term…but a strong come out roll.
Rest in Peace - Alexander McQueen - a true artist.

Well - the Fashion is on! Best of the day…Bespoken. The menswear line was modern while still channeling Keith Richards. The skinny, rockin’ styles were of fabrics that were easy and clean. The backdrop was a film that is a finished product from last season’s “collection work-in-progress” film - this time we see the finished garments set in different settings and a moody, grainy atmosphere. Loved it!

February 11, 2010
A false start to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week yesterday - but an amazing snow day - for me anyway who just weathered the Sundance Film Festival - I love it, but tough on New Yorkers! The first and only event I attended yesterday was the launch of SuperTrash A/W collection at the Time Warner Center restaurant Landmarc. Super sexy, edgy and fun…theme of “Dare to Show Yourself” was cool and apparent in the design. I particularly was drawn to the commanding muted tones of taupe, rust and gunmetal gray, the beaded shoulder detail in the jackets and slim, roushed silhouettes. I found myself asking…”Dare to Show Myself?”…why not?

We have to wait another few days as our boy and star of DRESSED, Nary Manivong postponed is A/W 2010 show until February 17th from 4-6pm. The Audi Showroom was a ready venue as Nary’s staff waited and then finally decided to postpone. Friend and fellow designer Loris Doran, stopped by anyway to say hi. We all retreated to the nearby Roosevelt Hotel for drinks and hot toddy’s by the fire for the rest of the day. In attendance, director of DRESSED, David Swajeski, actor Pila Manivong (and Nary’s identical twin), and stylist and designer Noel Jean. Expect a full house next week as Nary has been all over the press this week and - spoiler alert - I got a peak at the collection and it is soooo creative and fun! So what else with his talent and Ally Hilfiger by his side as stylist?
